Movement Digest – Mar 6, 2022

Years ago, when I decided that I wanted to (or maybe needed to) learn as much as I could about movement, fitness, and the wonderful stuff that goes along with it, there were a few people I immediately wanted to connect with. People I felt that I could really learn from. One of them was a fellow named Abel James.

Serendipitously, leveraging my skills as a digital media grad gave me something to offer people like him and, after a chance meeting at a conference in Austin Texas, I landed the great gig of being his Audio and Video engineer. That was in 2015~ish. And for the next couple of years, I was able to pay the bills while I absorbed all the info I could.

So, today, I can say without exaggeration that this is a huge moment for me because I am the guest on his Fat-Burning Man podcast in an episode that came out earlier this week.

After years of listening to all the knowledgeable, well-spoken, and cool guests he has on his show, it really feels like a wacky dream come true to now be one of those guests. #pinchme #fullcircle

Check out the episode and let me know what you think!

Second Wind Fitness – Your Engine’s 50,000 Mile Tune-Up (feed drop: Change Academy)
50 Thousand Mile tune-up? What the heck is that? Well… it’s a metaphor! For what movements we need during the ageing process. And this feed drop from the Change Academy podcast is a deep dive into what the body physically needs, to keep its engine running.

Change Academy – 50K Tuneup: Brakes
In part 6 of the 50,000 Mile Tuneup Series, we’re taking a look at our brakes–which we bet you can guess is a metaphor for sleep… zzzzz

Fat-Burning Man – How to Harness the Power of Your Own Curiosity
I was a guest on the Fat-Burning Man show (the podcast I used to edit) where we got into what kind of person do you want to be? Do you want to be the person who always seems to be in great shape no matter what? Do you want to shred on guitar and unleash a face-melting solo? Or do you want to be the person who wakes up and immediately jumps on their phone for a quick hit of drama-induced dopamine? It’s your choice.

Full-Body One-Move Movement Break

Here is a movement you can do anywhere, anytime, with any object. All you need to do is squat down, touch the object to the ground, then reach up and put the object in the sky.

The beauty of the movement is that it moves many of your body parts and doesn’t rely on the object being heavy. Any object will do. Obviously, you may want to be fewer reps with a heavy object or more reps with a lighter one – but that is up to you!

The point is to move your body parts and raise your heart rate. And this type of full-body movement is perfect for that.
