Fitness Digest – July 11, 2021

Exciting news! I am thinking of offering my “How to Sneak More Movement Into Your Day” workshop again sometime in August. Monica Reinagel and I offered it last summer and not only did we have a blast but we got an overwhelmingly positive response – so why not do it again?

If you would be interested in attending, hit reply on this email with a simple message like “count me in” or “I want to move more” and I will make sure you get the invite!

And now, with that out of the way, on with this week’s digest!

Podcasts:

Get-Fit Guy – Why We Need to Move Together Outside
The “Moving Together Outside” campaign increases access to outdoor spaces to help increase physical activity in all communities, especially those most vulnerable to lifestyle-related diseases such as obesity and diabetes. I interviewed the campaign’s spokesperson, Dr. Amy Bantham for the details.

Get-Fit Guy – Should You Exercise in the Morning, Afternoon, or Evening?
Exercise scientists have studied and written articles repeatedly on what time of day is the best time to work out and yet we all know people who buck the trend and work out at times that would make those researchers choke. So, are they wasting their time or are we?

Change Academy – Radical Acceptance with Heather Hutchison
One of the concepts that Heather Hutchison explores in her book is this idea of Radical Acceptance, a term that I introduced in a recent episode on coping. So we thought it would be great to have Heather on the show to talk more about that.

Change Academy – Defeat Procrastination with Microplanning
In this episode, we offer a practical strategy that can help you overcome the tendency to procrastinate or to simply not do the things that you intend to do.

If you think of general good fitness (as I do) being: “the ability to do the activities you enjoy and move through the world with ease and comfort” then to get and remain fit, you don’t always have to get sweaty and out of breath. Sometimes you just have to slow down and focus on the basics – like balance, coordination, and mobility.

In this Instagram post, I pointed out that it was four years ago that I took over the Get-Fit Guy podcast from Ben Greenfield. It has been a fun and educational four years but I am ready for a new adventure!

If you know me, you know that I am a fan of not staying put for too long. Whether it is moving across the country (a few times), changing careers (a bunch of times), or even changing my name (just once), I am not one to let the status quo tell me what to do. Itchy feet always win.

So in the next few weeks, I will be making some really exciting and cool announcements about where my podcasting life will be going next. I can’t reveal too much right now aside from how excited I am about the future!
